3 Reasons Why You Should Train With A Badminton Training Racket And Not A Squash Racket

3 Reasons Why You Should Train With A Badminton Training Racket And Not A Squash Racket

A lot of top badminton players in the world use various training techniques to improve their badminton skills, as well as to do some warm up prior to a match. One of the conventional ways is to use a squash racket as a training racket.

Squash rackets are much heavier in weight compared to badminton rackets which is why some think they are suitable for resistance training. But are they SAFE to use?

Here are top 3 reasons why you should switch to badminton training rackets

Be injury free

If you are using squash rackets as your badminton training racket, you might be at risk of injuries.

The swinging motion involved in a squash game is very different from badminton. Players who are already familiar with badminton tend to move their wrists to make court clearance during backhand shots and this in a way could be dangerous considering the additional resistance due to the size and shape of a squash racket.

In squash, the wrist is always used as an extension of the arm, never on its own. Squash players need to have some power transferred from the arm to hit, scoop and volley an actual heavy rubber ball. With the bulky frame , it’s quite impossible for a squash racket to perform as fast as the badminton racket.

Be more accurate

With badminton training racket, badminton players get to customize the string and tension used to train with actual racket’s sweet spot and with additional weight on the badminton training racket, players would enjoy better skill training.

Shuttlecocks vs Rubber Balls

Squash racket’s string is designed to hit heavy rubber balls, hence the thicker string used on the racket. It cannot generate the repulsion needed to drive and return badminton shuttlecocks. Therefore playing or practicing with them does not give you the true feeling and touch of a badminton racket.

In a nutshell, use squash racket as a tool for merely strengthening arm and shoulder muscle, just like any other gym equipment. They may not help in improving your badminton skill, but they are good as a supplement to your strength training.

Perhaps a better way is to try playing a real game of squash instead to get the weight and resistance training required minus the risk of injuring your wrists or thumbs.
